HOW DOES YOUR SPECIALIST
INSECT TREATMENT WORK?

Traditional pest treatment for bedbugs, silverfish, moths and other invasive insects often includes the use of harsh chemicals to eradicate these resilient pests. When the affected items are especially delicate, such as high value tapestries, antique rugs, furniture,  manuscripts and books, the use of pesticides and harsh chemicals could affect the integrity of your items, causing permanent damage.

Using extreme low temperatures, our specialist treatment effectively eliminates invasive insect pests from your items, without the use of harsh pesticides.

Our refrigerated trailer operates on any domestic 3 pin plug/power supply or 110v, and the cable can reach around 20 meters.  – The trailer is lockable but as with any trailer, easily stolen and hence we supply a ball joint lock to make life as difficult as possible for any potential thief whilst the trailer is on your premises.

Alternatively, we can collect and bag up your items and carry out the treatment in our own secure yard, returning everything once complete.

I HAVE HIGH VALUE ITEMS WHICH NEED INSECT TREATMENT. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?

If you own or manage a collection of high value items or individual items which have been affected by invasive pests, Abate Pest Control can help.

Offering both onsite and offsite treatment options, you can either hire our specialist refrigerated trailer for a recommended amount of time, or our friendly team can collect your affected items and carefully transport them to our premises for treatment.

Each treatment cycle involves your items being kept in the trailer at -22° for three days to ensure complete destruction of pests.

To prove how resilient moths can be, it is important to only place anything to be treated in the trailer once it has reached its operating temperature of -22°, otherwise moths have been known to develop their own ‘anti-freeze’!

If you have chosen the offsite treatment option, we will then return your items to you after treatment is complete.

Our recommendation is this form of treatment is conducted annually, bearing in mind the life cycle of the most damaging moths present in the UK.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING A REFRIGERATED TRAILER TO ERADICATE PESTS?

Environmentally Friendly - Using freezing temperatures is known to be a super effective treatment to eradicate invasive insects such as moths and bedbugs without the use of harsh chemicals.

Specialist 10m³ Trailer - Most items which need treatment won't into a chest freezer or domestic freezer, making our 3.4 meters long and 2 meters high trailer a convenient solution.

Onsite and Offsite Treatment Options - Depending on your needs, you can either hire our trailer to complete the treatment onsite, or arrange a collection for the treatment to be completed at our premises. This is especially useful for extremely delicate items which are more likely to be damaged during transportation.

Ideal For Imported Items - Our refrigerated treatment is perfect for antiques and fabrics imported from overseas, ensuring that they are free from pests before introducing the items to your home or business.

WHICH TYPES OF PEST ISSUES ARE BEST SUITED TO SPECIALIST TREATMENT?

Moths

Fabrics such as tapestries, clothing, curtains, and rugs are prone to moth infestations, especially when kept in storage for long periods of time. This makes high value items such as designer clothing, antique tapestries, and curtains more likely to be affected by these invasive pests. Such delicate items could be damaged by harsh chemical moth treatment, making our refrigerated treatment the ideal solution. Our 10m³ trailer is large enough to contain most items, including rugs, tapestries and curtains.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are notoriously difficult to eliminate, and once they infest an area, they can spread quickly. Our specialist refrigerated treatment is ideal for high value items such as soft furnishings which are infested with bed bugs, as the pests can be eliminated without harsh chemicals to avoid damaging the integrity of expensive or antique items.

Silverfish

Old books and paper items are very vulnerable to infestation from silverfish and booklice. Prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures using our specialist treatment is an effective way to eradicate these pests without the use of harsh chemicals which could potentially damage the delicate paper.
